Shangrila Resort, also known as 'Heaven on Earth', is a stunning resort located at Lower Kachura Lake in the Skardu District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. Surrounded by fruit-laden orchards and flower gardens, this resort offers breathtaking views of the lake and the mighty Karakoram mountains. The resort is famous for its unique cottages, serene environment, and the iconic red pagoda-style building that reflects in the crystal-clear waters of the lake.
Historical Background
The resort was established in 1983 by Muhammad Aslam Khan, the first commander of the Northern Scouts of Pakistan Army. It was named Shangrila after the fictional place described in James Hilton's 1933 novel 'Lost Horizon'. The novel describes Shangri-La as a mystical, harmonious valley enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains. Over the years, the resort has become a symbol of the natural beauty of Pakistan's northern areas.
